When you come upon this blog and see the oh-so-many articles about divination, it's easy to think that a lot of these divination techniques are already outdated and that they rightfully belong to the past, before the age of science and reason.

That is not true. Though it is correct that the number of people interested in divination in today is less compared to that ages ago, there are still some quarters who look at the results shown by oracles and other divination media. It is interesting that a lot of these things are now viewed secondarily, unlike before when people run in panic when an oracle rules against anyone's favor.

At this very moment, perhaps the most prominent symbol of divination is Paul the Octopus. OK, now that didn't sound like an ancient piece of divination tool that has been in use for centuries. Actually he's just a few months (years?) old and he lives in the Sea Life Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. What's so special about him? He's the most successful animal oracle in the World Cup so far, having predicted the outcome of 100% of Germany's games. He is basically made to choose between two shellfishes located inside two boxes bearing the flags of the match participants.

There are so many animal oracles out there, but a lot of them have failed. Germany's loss to Serbia was pretty much unseen by a lot of animals except Paul, who was also so confident with his prediction of a win against England that he even closed the lid of Germany's box. Now, he predicted another German win against Argentina in the World Cup semifinals. That will be a slight upset since many favor Argentina to win this game.

If he makes it another time, that means he continues his streak of World Cup wins. He also guessed 80% of the match results right in Euro 2008. I think I'm going to make a bet on the team that Paul predicts to win if Germany wins this quarterfinal match.
